If you are a Group Leader, or would like to become one, this is the page for you. You should find everything that you need here. If there is anything else you want to know or need help with, please send a message to our Groups Coordinator
Each of our groups now has it's own web page where we can keep the group's details up to date, add photos, add events and much more. These pages are used to promote our groups to our members so they know what is available to them.
There is a list of current groups on the 'Our Groups' page.
Guidelines
Group leaders are supported by the committee, particularly at the start, in terms of how to run a group and financial help to get the groups going depending on the type of group.
Group Leaders are sometimes referred to as Convenors and you may see this term used in some our documents.
The general guidance on running a group is contained in our guidebook.
Insurance
All Norwich u3a members have the benefit of the nationally provided Public & Products Liability Insurance cover. See the u3a Members Area for details.
Risk Assessment
Risk Assessments should be done by group leaders / convenors for the venue where the group meets. This should be done for each new venue and periodically when a venue doesn't change. Risk Assessment forms are available from the u3a website.
Creating a New Group
A new group is formed simply by a member deciding that they have an interest that's probably shared by some other members. If you have an interest that you would like to share with others then create a new group and we will help promote it for you. You can add photos and images to your group to show others what you do and how much fun you have.
Go to our New Group Page to get started.
Changing a group status
The group status is used to let members know whether you group has spaces available, maybe there is a waiting list or maybe it is full at the moments. There are 5 status settings to choose from:
- Active, open to new members [Active]
- Active, not currently accepting new members [Full]
- Active, full but can join waiting list [Waiting list]
- Temporarily inactive [Dormant]
- No longer meeting [Closed]
Send a message to the Groups Coordinator telling them which group needs changing and what the new status should be.
Amending a Group
Once a group is up and running, you may need to change some details such as locations or let members know if the group has become full. You may wish to add some photos to show everyone what the group has been doing. If you need to make any changes contact our Groups Coordinator giving details of what you want to change.
Removing a Group
It is always difficult to close a group, however, if you can no longer run the group and no one is able to take over running it then please let us know so that we can remove it from the website. Please do that by sending a message to our Groups Coordinator giving the group name and details of why it is closing.
Promote your group on our Facebook page. This will encourage others to join Norwich u3a and attend your group. We can add photos and other images to show potential members what you do and they can see how much fun you have. For more details on how to do this contact our Web Manager.
We also have a Facebook Group where you can chat with other Norwich u3a members and advertise your group. For more details on how to do this contact our Groups Coordinator.
