Green Man at High Ash Farm
The Monday walking group is a long standing (22+ years) friendly group organised and run by Esme Wilson-Staniforth. The group typically walks about 8 miles and rarely more than 10. We also have occasional shorter walks subject to demand. The walks are usually no more than 20 miles from Norwich and occur all year without a break including in winter. The group occasionally organises social outings as well.
The group has a roughly fixed number of walkers, about 22 to make the numbers manageable with 12/14 walking at a time. Enquiries from new people are always welcome. The walk start time is on the dot of 10:00, so most people turn up at the start at 9:30 - 9:45.
The group continues to flourish with 19 members at present, with walkers taking it in turns to look for venues and routes.
This year, a great variety of walks enjoyed amazing weather. To the relief of the fortnightly walkers they seemed to miss the extreme temperature days. Norfolk has so many places of interest to explore . This year they included Sherringham Country Park, Lopham Fen, Happisburgh, Swanton Morley, Dilham, Coltishall, Mulbarton , Bergh Apton, Blickling Estate , Shotesham and Acle to mention just a few starting points.
Recently we have added on some free Mondays to offer our members short 4 /5 mile walks as an extra benefit . The last one was to Mousehold Heath to explore its history and also observed the damage caused by the recent fire.
Lastly, we had two social dates late spring and late summer. Our chosen venue was the Old Feathers with its amazingly good food served in ample proportions!
